Sweet Confection Arrives!

Well, the day has finally come in which SC Poppy arrives!  I should preface this by saying that in actuality, my shipping buddy’s Poppy arrived and I stole his (thank you!!) as mine are due to arrive on 12/28.  So luckily I was able to rip her quickly from her box!

I have to admit this is the first time I was a little nervous to receive a doll.  I have been waiting for this Poppy since Bergdorf came out.  I ADORE that screening and the applied lashes and I have been dreaming of a tan Poppy for at least a year.  So I had my hopes up high for this doll.  Then the last few days I was seeing hit or miss pics of her and was really nervous that she was going to be orange-y or have weirdly pink lips.  So when I opened the box an hour ago and let out a HUGE sign of relief.  I have to admit that all the different lighting and cameras make a BiG difference in how a doll photographs.  In real life she is not any darker than Aria and the pink on her lips isn’t a weird pearly pasty pink plastered on but it actually has more of a nudish undertone.  Yay!

From having quite a few tan dolls I have come to realize that the color choice you put on them can make or break how they photograph too, so I feel like I’ve been able to learn how to work with this skintone well over the last year or 2 (I guess I’m patting myself on the back, LOL).  I have yet to conquer the pale skintone photography which is why I never was able to keep any Elise’s.  Note to self…work on pale doll photography…

Her hair came pulled back into a ponytail and she has some product at the crown to give her a little height without it being a full bump.  And you know I modernize my Poppy’s so that quickly was taken down (there is 1 pin in it) and just washed gently to remove the product.  The curl stayed beautifully I must say.

So you get your obligatory shot of her in her original outfit and then a restyled & redressed one! It’s already getting dark here and we’ve got plans tonight, but you can be sure I’ll be spamming her this weekend in different clothes and with Bergdorf, who is happy to have a sister!

I also added a shot at the end with 3 other tan dolls.  Honestly there is no difference in the skintone that I can find. If I just look at the bodies only they are the same.  It’s just the choice of haircolor and makeup that can make one doll seem darker than another.  Also please excuse the shots where her face is slightly blurry – I am having trouble again with my right eye, which is my “lens” eye.  I may have to learn to shoot with my left eye…

Well my sigh of relief was when I opened up her box, LOL. I hope she lives up to your expectations. I know you prefer a certain style/look for your girls so if she doesn’t fit in then you know to stick to the regular skintones!

She looks wonderful. When I got her yesterday, I wasn’t sure about her. I think that her stock outfit and the box really worked against her. Once I changed her clothes and lowered her ponytail she looked really cute a little tarty but she’s got a lot of potential. Can’t wait to see more pics. Happy Holidays!!!

I totally agree! She needs to be freed from her box and redressed for optimal beauty.

I found them in my hand box and they were tan so they worked! Maybe they were an old Natalia’s?

As per usual great shots!! And you are absolutely right about various pix (cameras, angles, lightening etc). And, every time I take her pix she comes out tanner(?) but I barely know how to turn my camera on LOL

Anywho, I knew this girl was staying @ my house no matter how baked she was! Love her:-)

You and your camera… lol :-) I love her on your photos damn it! I gotta find other disadvanteges than the shade of her lips or skintone (which were against keeping her when she arrives) to make peace with letting her go, lol

Thanks for the great shots Shug, you always make dolls look spectacular! A little question about the new upgrade Poppy: do you think she has “real” eyelashes like Bergdorf and SC?
Happy Holidays to you and your husband, and I wish you loads of dolly time in 2012!
    Hugs from canada!

No she doesn’t. If she did it would be marked in the description.

She IS quite pretty and once again I think IT’s packaging and presentation, like with many dolls this year, has been scaring people away. By the way, did everyone and their mom buy this doll just to sell her for 250? There have been over a dozen listings on ebay since day one.

This was the highest number of WClub dolls ordered I think in a few years. Like 900 made!

I totally agree with you about the skin color. I was so nervous after seeing “real life” shots of her. Then when I got mine, I was so relieved that she looked “normal” and not like a spray tan gone awry.

I don’t like the hair she came with- usually I leave my Poppy’s hair alone because I want that “60′s” look- but there’s something about this hairstyle that looks off.
This one may be coming to the 2000′s
